How to Burn Multi session CDs and DVDs
A multi session CD is a recordable CD format that allows the recording of a compact disk to be conducted in more than one recording session. In a multi session disc, if there is free space left on the CD after the first session, additional data can be written to it at a later date. (Note: Each session has its own lead in, program area, and lead out, which takes up about 20 megabytes of space, and therefore, is less efficient than recording data all at once).
Multi-Session Disc
Burn My Files defaults to "Multi-session Disc" format, which is set under the Options menu:
The following options are available: "Multi-session Disc" ticked: The disk will remain "open" and future sessions will be able to be recorded to the disk; "Multi-session Disk" not ticked: The disk will bed "closed" and no further data can be written to the disk.Import Last Track
A "track" refers to a session of data. The "Import Last Track" controls whether or not a previous session will be viewable on a disk:
"Import Last Track" ticked: Any previous sessions on the disk that have been imported will still be viewable after the new session has been written.
"Import Last Track" not ticked: Only the new session will be viewable on the disk when it is written.
Can I Recover a Lost or Hidden Track/Session?
If a previous session has been recorded but is no longer viewable, it is possible to recover that data with Burn My Files.
Insert your CD or DVD media into your CD or DVD recorder. Burn My Files should automatically identify the type of burner you have connected to your computer and display it in the Device field together with the type of disk that you currently have inserted.
Note: If Burn My Files does NOT detect your burner, or when a new disk is inserted, click the Refresh button.
Click on the disk information button;
In the "Drive Properties" tab, view the sessions that reside on the disk (including hidden/lost sessions that do not display under windows);
Right lick on the lost/hidden session and select "Save Track As...". The contents of the track will save as an ISO image file from which the data can be extracted. Learn more about ISO image files here.
